Royal Caribbean Update: Deluxe Beverage Package Changes
As was reported by our partner over at Royal Caribbean Blog, as of August 1, 2025, Royal Caribbean has eliminated the option to purchase a Deluxe Beverage Package for one adult (21+) guest and get a Refreshment Package for the second adult in the same stateroom. Now, all guests of legal drinking age in the stateroom must purchase the Deluxe Beverage Package. Below is my summary, but you can read the full article here.
🕰️ Previous Policy
Before this change, guests could request an exception by calling Royal Caribbean (not through the Cruise Planner online or app). This allowed one adult to purchase the Deluxe Beverage Package while the other, who didn’t drink (e.g., due to pregnancy, recovery, or medical reasons), could opt for a Refreshment Package. This was a valuable option for many, accommodating personal circumstances.
🔄 Current Policy
The exception is no longer available. Regardless of the reason, if one adult in the stateroom purchases a Deluxe Beverage Package, all adults of legal drinking age must also purchase it.
âť“ Why the Change?
Some guests abused the exception to bypass costs. For example, one person would buy the Deluxe Beverage Package and order drinks, like a bucket of beer, to share with others in the group. Royal Caribbean’s policy stated that such actions could lead to package revocation, individual drink charges, or other penalties, but enforcement was inconsistent. Eliminating the exception aims to curb this misuse.
🛠️ Will It Work?
Not entirely. Those intent on cheating the system may still find ways, though stricter enforcement could reduce violations. Unfortunately, this change impacts those who relied on the exception for legitimate reasons, as the actions of a few affect everyone.
